Response to Kaprow “Blurring of art and life”

The author is an artist, but some people do not think his artwork count as art at all. Kaprow thinks that brushing teeth every morning, and watching in the mirror his elbow moving up and down, is a kind of art. In the article, he mentions that he paid attention to the movement of brushing his teeth in the morning. He thinks that brushing his teeth is a routinized, nonconscious behavior, and he stated to suspect that his daily life is also routinized, and unnoticed. I agree the author’s opinion. People usually ignore things that happen in our daily lives. If we pay attention to some little things in our lives, I believe we would notice many things that we did not notice before.
After reading this article, I still do not understand why brushing teeth could be art. I still think artwork should be placed in galleries or museums.

Micro Project 2

I screenshot the google map and paste the two same pictures to be the background of my project. I live in RiverWatch Tower, which is near campus, so I walk to school everyday. I have two different routes to go to the classroom in the stadium. One is when I wake up at 8am, and the other one is when I wake up at 9am. For the left one, it shows the route when I wake up at 8am. If I wake up earlier enough, I will go to the Panera on Lane Avenue to have breakfast. I enjoy having breakfast in Panera. It gives me energy to do my work on that day. Then I cross Lane at the intersection of the Tuttle Park Place, and go down the road to get to the stadium. For the one on the right, it shows the route when I wake up late. The route is made of straight lines, because I walk very fast to the classroom. I cross Lane on Perry Street, and pass by the garage on campus to get to the Tuttle Park Place, and go down the road to get to the classroom. I use the blur tool in Photoshop to blur the background map on the left, because I would not see the things very clearly on my way to the classroom, when I walk very fast.

Response to Cardiff, Miller & the Power of Sound

Cardiff and Miller are artists who are famous for their work with sound. They record sounds happen in their lives. They record travelings, dialogues. I found this article interesting because it changed my thoughts on sound. I never thought about using only sound as art. I saw sound as a tool to support other form of art to have better presentation. Like the sound effects in movies play an important role, but they are only the tools to improve movies. I think it would be interesting if I record my one-day life with my iphone. I think I will find something that I did not notice before.

Blog 4

I really enjoyed reading “Nipple Jesus” by Nick Hornby. The article is more interesting than the articles that we read last week. I think this article is easy to read because it is like a story. The narrator, Dave, shares his personal feelings about the artwork. At first, he thought he liked this piece of artwork. When he got closer to the piece and he figured that the artwork was consisted of nipples, he became to dislike the artwork. I agree with the narrator that an artwork could be beautiful and disgusting at the same time, and I think many things could be beautiful and disgusting at the same time, too, if we look at one thing from different perspectives.

I think the artwork was made by nipples is kink of rude. I do not like the idea of making a picture of Jesus by nipples. However, I think it is good that a piece of art can change a person’s perspective. When you look at an artwork for a long time, you may find something that you would not notice.

My name on campus
This is my order of a breakfast bagel in the Oxley Cafe by the number yard.

Both the first ten pictures and the second ten were taken by my i-phone. I felt that the first ten was more enjoyable. In the first experience, I could take the pictures of whatever I wanted to take. There is no limit in the first ten pictures. However, it was different in the second ten. I had to take ten pictures that satisfied the ten instructions. It was harder than the first ten. The last one was the most difficult, because it was hard to find my name on campus. I just took a picture of my breakfast order, and the receipt had my name on it. My favorite image is the image from a bird’s point of view – a picture of the Oval. It was taken on the 11th floor of Thompson Library. I have the pictures of the Oval, which were taken at the same spot for four seasons.
